Island County 4-H

Introduction

We all eat. Food is one of the most basic human needs. And yet these days, in our fast-paced society, we don't often take time to consider where that food comes from, what goes into producing it, how much it costs to grow and transport it, or in many cases, how to prepare it.

Our lives literally depend on food, but more and more of us are disconnected from the systems that provide it.

If you are interested in changing this, come along with us! The Food For Thought project has been designed with busy families in mind. You can do as little or as much as you have time for. All we ask is that you fill out and submit a 4-H enrollment form so that we can track how many families are participating, and that you check this site regularly to keep up with the opportunities available to you throughout the year.

Our overall goal is to increase the awareness of our food and how it comes to our plates here on Whidbey Island. As we work toward this goal, we will offer chances to learn more about growing, cooking, and sharing food, and we'll suggest topics for conversation at the dinner table.

There are no membership dues, although for some classes we will suggest a small donation to help us cover the cost of the supplies we need. Activities will be geared for families with children, but the program is open to all who are interested in and willing to work in support of families with children.
