Many of us live on Whidbey because of the space it offers...space to plant a garden, raise a couple of chickens, to experiment growing berries or plant a few apple trees. Indeed, the island offers many opportunities to enjoy the “country life.” This workshop has been designed to support the lifestyle with over 30 CLASSES on everything from cisterns to backyard forest care, from equine massage to cheese making and gardening for profit. Instructors come from our local community so that you can connect with these folks year round should you want further guidance. Whether you’re thinking about starting a new project or you’re looking for new information for your existing operation, the Country Living Workshop has something for you!
Our Keynote Address
Alternative farmer Tristan Klesick gives this year’s key note address “Sustainability Includes Profitability,” highlighting profit’s place in sustainable agriculture. Join Tristan as he shares an entrepreneur’s journey to create a farm business where producer and customer sustain one another.
Tristan Klesick and his family farm 37 acres just south of Stanwood. The Klesick Family Farm markets their own vegetables and grass fed beef through their home delivery program, The Organic Produce Shoppe. The farm business is a family affair allowing each of the children to develop their own interests within the family farm. Tristan has served on the Snohomish County Agricultural Advisory Board, as Co-chair of the Snohomish Agricultural Economic Development Action Team and is currently a Flood Control District Commissioner and a local advisor to Northwest Farm Credit Services.
Local agriculture has a bright future,
especially for the creative, market-minded producer.
