We began this walk at 10:15 AM, heading towards Pete's Lane.
At the on-set, there exists a bulkhead constructed of boulders shaped
in the configuration of a 'J'. Out in the water was the rotting remains
of an old pier that, according to Betty, was used by the Navy. Betty also
informed me that there are plans afoot to build a large 'marina' out in
the area of the old pier. *One could speculate the impact this marina
will have on marine life in this area. GPS data was recorded.
Within the next 30 minutes, we came across three large diameter outflow pipes that were encased in rock sleeves. The first and third were constructed of metal with 30 inch diameters; the second was of concrete construction, its diameter was 24 inch. The Oak Harbor Rotary Club is located mid-way between the 1st and 3rd outflow pipes. The water from its small lagoon flowed under a bridge through a large 4 feet wide culvert towards the shore. There was also a rock groin near the third outflow pipe. We did spot an almost hidden 6 inch plastic outflow pipe nearly buried in the thick vegetation near the edge of the bluff at 11:05 AM. Ten minutes later we came upon a collapsed bulkhead constructed of boulders. For the next 10 to 15 minutes, there were a series of rotting wood pilings embedded in the shore. The pilings ranged in size from a few inches, above the shore surface, to 6 feet.
