Garden Tips

• Use a variety of roses to show the diversity of the plant.

• Use color themes to organize the beds.

Rose plantings

rose garden
The design for this garden comprises four color zones—white, pink, red, and yellow. Herbs and lavender interspersed with violas, a knot garden in the center, pathways, and arbors complete the plan. The knot garden includes an obelisk with a climbing rose; two beds of lavender; and interwoven bands of thyme, santolina, and germander.

Along one edge of the garden is a rose hedge planted with a pink shrub rose that blooms non-stop and needs little maintenance beyond feeding and watering. This hedge solved a safety issue caused by a sharp drop from the sidewalk along the adjacent Cottage Garden.
