WSU Waste Wise
Volunteers (formerly called Waste Warriors) are volunteers trained
to help Island County residents, schools, and businesses reduce
waste. The first WSU Waste Wise Volunteer class graduated in 1992.
Since that time, the program has trained 15 - 20 new volunteers
each year. Volunteers assist with a variety of Island County waste
reduction programs and help bring information to the public through
presentations, displays, and newspaper articles. Waste Wise Volunteers
teach composting, recycling and paper making for adults and children.
They set up recycling stations at fairs and show shoppers how
to make waste saving choices at the grocery store. This program
is supported and funded by Island County Public Works Solid Waste
Division and Washington State University Cooperative Extension.
The program is administered by Washington State University Cooperative
Extension in Island County.
