This plant looks very much like Carrot, Chervil or Queen Anne's Lace.
It has parsley-like leaves with purple mottling along the stem. All parts of the plant are poisonous.
In November 2007 the Washington State Noxious Weed Control Board redesignated this species. Once a Class C weed, Poison Hemlock is now a Class B. It is designated for control in Island County meaning seeds must be kept from dessimination and the property owner must work to reduce the size of the infestation. Because of its toxicity it is most prudent to eradicate this weed.
Control is site specific. The Weed Board is available for site visits to help identify plant species and develop simple vegetation management plans.
More information about this weed species can be found on the Montana State University Extension website. |
