Class A - Generally, new invaders, these weeds have a limited distribution in our state. They represent a potentially serious threat if they are allowed to spread unchecked. Early action has the greatest chance of success and minimizes expenses and resource damage. Therefore, preventing new infestations and eradicating (removing/destroying) existing infestation is our highest priority. Control is mandatory.
Class B - These weeds are presently limited to portions of our state. They have been designated for control here because they are not yet considered widespread in Island County. Control is mandatory for these weeds, with our goal being that of preventing new infestations (not allowing plants to produce seed) and eventually eradicating existing infestations.
Class C Designate (C-D) - While these weeds are indeed very widespread, the Island County Noxious Weed Control Board has determined that they pose a significant threat to various aspects of land use, public safety, and our environmental resources. Therefore, we require (rather than encourage) long-term programs of suppression and control. The objective is to minimize their further spread into areas that are being actively farmed, maintained, or restored.
Class C - These weeds are so widespread in our county that we do not require control, but do encourage long-term programs of suppression and control.
